What forest honey tastes like
Forest honey comes from the blossoms of the trees surrounding the hives: a multi-source nectar that changes with every season and gives a honey of great aromatic complexity.
At OROA it is harvested by two passionate beekeepers: Fabien Ievlo, between Bourail, Boulouparis and Bouraké, and Théo Rivière, in La Foa. Both keep their hives far from any monoculture and harvest late, giving the bees time to draw on the forest's full floral richness.
Where our forest honey comes from
The west coast, between plains and forests
Bourail, Boulouparis, La Foa: the west coast of Grande Terre alternates plains, valleys and forested ranges. The hives sit at the forest's edge, far from pollution and intensive farming.

Forest honey: frequently asked questions
It is honey made from the blossoms of the forest trees and shrubs around the hives. Its make-up changes with whatever is in flower, giving it great aromatic depth. Ours comes from the west coast of New Caledonia.
A honey's colour depends on the plants the bees visit. Forest species naturally give darker, more aromatic honeys than pale blossoms such as lemon or lychee.
It is superb with aged cheeses, in meat marinades, gingerbread and sauces. As a drink, it pairs well with black tea and coffee.
